GPIC inaugurates new solar energy project
The Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) has taken a significant step towards a more sustainable future with the inauguration of its new solar energy project.
GPIC chairman Kamal Ahmed officially opened the project yesterday. This initiative aligns with the company’s commitment to using renewable energy sources and reducing its environmental impact.
The project involved installing solar panels on the roof of the employee car park, taking advantage of Bahrain’s abundant sunshine.
This not only represents an important step towards sustainability but is also expected to contribute to daily energy savings and environmental protection.
Praising those involved in bringing the project to life, Mr Ahmed highlighted its contribution to Bahrain’s vision for a sustainable future.
He added that the new system is expected to generate approximately 2,900 kilowatts per hour, providing both energy savings and environmental benefits.
Yasser Alabbasi, chief executive of GPIC, expressed the company’s ambition to implement its new 2040 Strategic Plan, which focuses on a gradual shift towards alternative energy sources. He also revealed plans to explore the expansion of the project to further increase green energy production and environmental protection.
Mr Alabbasi elaborated that the rooftop solar panels were installed by a leading Bahraini renewable energy company. The project is expected to generate a total of 1,072 megawatt-hours of energy per year, significantly impacting GPIC’s energy strategy.
He added that a digital display installed at the employee car park entrance will provide real-time data on energy production and environmental impact throughout the year.
Both Mr Ahmed and Mr Alabbasi commended the Bahraini expertise that made the project a success, underlining its contribution to GPIC’s sustainability goals. They expressed their enthusiasm for seeing further renewable energy initiatives implemented as part of the company’s 2040 strategy.
