GCC population drops by a million

The population in GCC countries decreased by 1.03 million people in 2021 compared with 2020.

The GCC Statistical Centre’s latest report revealed that the total population was 56.4m people, equivalent to 0.7 per cent of the total world population.

The average population density reached 23.5 people per square kilometre.

The report indicated that the population of Bahrain represents 2.7pc of the total GCC population, while the population of Saudi Arabia makes up 60.5pc of the total population in GCC states.

The report showed a 2.2pc increase in Bahrain’s population in 2021, and an increase in the percentage of females by 5.7pc in 2021 compared with 2020.

The report stated that the median age of the total GCC population for 2021 reached 31.4 years, compared with 30.2 years in 2017.

The median age of males increased from 32.2 years in 2017 to 33.5 years in 2021.

For females, the median age increased from 26.5 years to 27.4 years during the same period.
