A delegation of FCCIB Members visited DANAT on 17th & 20th October 2021

A delegation of Members from the French Chamber of Commerce & Industry in Bahrain, FCCIB, visited Bahrain Institute for Pearls & Gemstones (DANAT), on Sunday, 17th October 2021 and on Wednesday, 20th October 2021.

The delegation, headed by Mrs. Rim Jalali, Executive Director of the Chamber, was attended by His Excellency Jérôme Cauchard, Ambassador of France to Bahrain and Mr. Yaser Alsharifi, Chairman of DANAT’s Board of Directors.

Mrs. Noora Jamsheer, CEO of DANAT, introduced the event with an insightful presentation of DANAT and Bahrain. After that, FCCIB Members were taken on a tour of the lab and research work and were presented DANAT’s Services and Educational facilities. The visit was concluded with a demonstration of gemstone faceting.

The Pearl Industry in Bahrain always had a strong relationship with France, which started since 1911, when Mr. Jacques Cartier travelled to the island in the pursuit of the world’s most precious and exquisite pearls.

110 years later, the French business community, represented by the delegation of FCCIB Members, is still mesmerized by the beauty of Bahrain Natural Pearls and the Kingdom’s expertise in this field.

·       About DANAT:

The Bahrain Institute for Pearls and Gemstones (DANAT) is a world-class gemmological laboratory, education and research centre, with a particular focus on the testing and study of natural pearls as a reflection of Bahrain’s ancient pearling history and desire to protect this heritage. Its expert team of gemmologists supports clients and students from around the world through pearl, gemstone and diamond identification services, as well as teaching a range of internally developed courses and internationally recognised gemmological qualifications. As a result, DANAT plays a vital role in protecting and enhancing public trust in the jewellery and gemmological community. DANAT’s specialist gemmological research and commitment to innovative technologies enable DANAT to make meaningful contributions to gemmological fields of study.

Established in 2017, under the aegis of HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Bahrain, DANAT is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company (“Mumtalakat”), the sovereign wealth fund of the Kingdom of Bahrain. DANAT evolved from the Pearl & Gem Testing Laboratory of Bahrain, the first laboratory of its kind in the Gulf region (established in 1990). It is with great privilege that DANAT expands upon the excellent work of its predecessor, enabling an even greater global audience to access and benefit from Bahrain’s gemmological expertise.
