Sales of Bahraini jewellery up 60 per cent to BD10 million

SALES of Bahraini jewellery at Jewellery Arabia 2017 increased by 60 per cent from last year’s event, according to official statistics.
Jewels, gems and watches worth BD400 million were on display at the 26th edition of the largest expo of its kind in the region.
Items worth BD74m were on display, while locally produced jewellery worth BD10m was sold during the event at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre (BIECC), said a statement by the Customs Affairs Clearance and Inspection Department.
“Sale of Bahraini jewellery at Jewellery Arabia 2017 was up by 59.9pc compared with last year,” said the statement yesterday.
“Jewels and gems worth more than BD400m were showcased at the BIECC.
“The value of the amount of local jewellery on display reached BD74m, while locally produced jewellery worth BD10m was sold at the expo.
“Customs generated revenue of BD410,000.”
It added the number of participants increased by 11.11pc this year, with more than 600 companies from 30 countries taking part.
“Customs Affairs received a total of 753 consignments – 120 by air and 633 brought in by passengers,” it added.
The five-day expo concluded on Saturday and attracted a total of 50,789 visitors, according to organiser UBM Arabian Exhibition Management.
