New Commercial Registration fees take effect from Saturday

MANAMA: Businesses in Bahrain will have to pay increased Commercial Registration (CR) fees from Saturday.

A statement by Industry, Commerce and Tourism Ministry said business owners will now pay BD50 for a CR plus BD100 for up to three business activities, with each additional activity being charged a fee of BD100.

The ministry said it would not charge any activities fees imposed by other government agencies.

GDN had reported in October that a consensus had been reached between the ministry and the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI).

CR owners have so far been paying an annual fee of BD50 to obtain and renew a licence.

This was revised by the ministry last year to BD50 plus BD1,000 each for the first three activities and BD100 each for additional activities.

However, the BCCI proposed that CR fees be increased at a flat rate of BD100 with unlimited activities attached to it.

A compromise was reached last month and the new fee structure was agreed to.

Those who have already renewed their CRs will pay the new charges at the time of their next renewal.
