NBB Summer Intern Programme

Manama: National Bank of Bahrain (NBB) has completed a summer internship programme in cooperation with the Bayan Bahrain School (BBS) to immerse students into the exciting and fast paced world of banking at NBB. The programme builds on NBB’s commitment to the training of local talent including Bahraini youth in order to educate and attract the next generation of talent into the Kingdom’s financial services sector and ensure NBB remains a top destination and employer of choice for innovative, young professionals.

Eleven students took part in the three-week programme, which kicked off in mid-July. Interns, aged 16 – 18, received hands-on experience across key business units of the Bank including Retail, Commercial & SMEs, Operations, Credit & Risk Management, Corporate and Institutional Investment Banking, Internal Audit and Compliance. The exposure to the relevant skills and capabilities required will assist the prospective bankers of the future to succeed in the fast-evolving banking sector.

Commenting, Ms Dana Buheji, Chief Human Resources Officer at NBB, said, “We’re delighted to give high school students in Bahrain an opportunity to experience working in a bank at an important time when they are about to decide on their future academic and career paths. At NBB, it is amongst our top priorities and a key pillar of our strategy to attract, train and develop future industry leaders. This is one of the initiatives we have launched to help educate young talent and to nurture their interests, to possibly contribute to keeping the Kingdom’s financial services sector at the forefront of innovation and leadership well into the future.”

Interns were delighted with the opportunity that NBB provided. Hussain Al Shaikh, one of the students reported, “The programme has exceeded my expectation. Having worked in the Commercial & SME department, I’ve learned a great deal including being trained on planning and executing projects. The work environment was welcoming, I got to know the employees and learned to deal with people in a professional way. I hope I get the opportunity to join NBB again in the future. “

Also talking about his experience, student Gharam Nassar, who interned in the Bank’s Operations department, added, “It was a good experience, we learned about how the bank operates and the business flow and procedures. NBB staff received us well and it was a good environment to work in. “

In addition to internships for high school students, NBB also has one of the largest and most dynamic graduate training programmes in Bahrain’s banking sector that goes in line with the Bank’s mission to keep attracting young talent.
