Kingdom’s inflation rate eases

MANAMA: Consumer prices in Bahrain increased 1.3 per cent year-on-year in December last year, following a 2.9pc rise in November, shows the latest data from the Information and eGovernment Authority. 

A statement said it was the lowest inflation rate since June as prices rose slower for housing and utilities (1pc compared with 5.1pc in November).In addition, prices fell more for transport (-6.3pc compared with -0.8pc).

Meanwhile, prices went up faster for food and non-alcoholic beverages (4.6pc compared with 4.5pc in November); recreation and culture (3.1pc compared with 2.4pc), and alcoholic beverages and tobacco (3.1pc compared with 2.8pc) while inflation was steady for furniture and household equipment (5pc).

On a monthly basis, consumer prices went down 1.6pc, following a 0.3pc fall in November.
