Citizens urged to follow virus rules

CITIZENS and residents have been urged to take the responsibility of abiding by restrictions imposed to contain Covid-19 seriously.

The call went out from the Shura Council yesterday as its chairman Ali Saleh Al Saleh read out a statement on behalf of his colleagues during the session.

“The health and safety of Bahrainis, whether here or abroad, are important to us and everyone needs to act responsibly towards protecting themselves and others around them,” said Mr Al Saleh at the start of the weekly session.

“We urge the public – citizens and residents – to stand together and respect all measures that are intended to contain and combat the spread of the virus within the community.

“Any legislation that aims to help Bahrain overcome this situation is welcomed by us as legislators.”

Meanwhile, another statement denouncing the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) for airing a documentary film defaming Bahrain and its human rights record was issued by Shura’s human rights committee.

“We would like to applaud all concerned bodies in Bahrain for standing up to correct such false information and statistics and there is a need to continue efforts to clarify the truth about Bahrain’s achievements in all fields,” said committee chairman Ahmed Al Haddad.
