BCCI memberships rise

MANAMA: Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) has enrolled 4,092 new members in 24 days since the implementation of a new law making membership compulsory for every Commercial Registration (CR) holder. Sources said that since enforcing the rule from January 1, memberships increased from  5,856 on December 30 to 9,948. This reflects an increase of 4,092 members or 70 per cent in 24 days at an average of 240 new memberships per business day.

The sources said that membership is expected to rise to 11,000 by the month-end. Official statistics indicate that there are 13,934 active CRs in Bahrain and it is expected that all these will be registered with BCCI by the end of the year, in accordance with their CR renewal dates. This is expected to generate more than BD2 million in membership fees.
