Bahrain inflation eases by 0.1 per cent in April
MANAMA: Inflation in Bahrain as measured by Consumer Price Index eased in April by 0.1 per cent from the previous month, shows the latest data from the Information and eGovernment Authority.
The CPI saw a decrease from 132.2 points in March 2018 to 132 points in April. However, it increased by 2.6pc last month when compared with the same month of 2017, as shown by the increase from 128.7 points in April 2017 to 132 points in April 2018.
The inflation rate in consumer prices for the first four months of the year was 2.7pc when compared with the same period of 2017.
Housing and utility costs, which account for 24pc of consumer expenses, rose 1.7pc from a year earlier in April.
At 35.5pc, alcoholic beverages and tobacco saw the highest year-on-year rise from April 2017 to April this year, due largely to the selective tax on tobacco and its derivatives, energy drinks and soft drinks imposed from the start of this year.
Seen similarly, prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages rose by 0.7pc and clothing and footwear became dearer by 2pc.
