Bahrain eCommerce Academy launched

MANAMA: A new training platform aims to equip Bahraini entrepreneurs with skills to succeed in e-commerce and online businesses.

The Bahrain eCommerce Academy was launched yesterday at the Wyndham Grand, Bahrain Bay by Industry, Commerce and Tourism Ministry assistant under-secretary of resources and services Abdulaziz Alashraaf.

The academy is a joint initiative of the ministry, Bahraini firm ThinkSmart and Dubai-based Aquitude.

Citing public domain data, Mr Alashraaf said the global value of business to business eCommerce is currently estimated at $22.4 trillion, whereas the value of business to consumer eCommerce is about $2.9trn.

“This confirms the vitality of this economic sector and its various successes, especially with the presence of more than two million companies around the world active in e-commerce.”

“To support these digital transformations, the Bahrain eCommerce Academy will contribute in the creation of an integrated training platform based on the refinement of technical skills and the provision of the necessary information and expertise, which will encourage investment in the field of eCommerce and qualify the entrepreneurs and the Bahraini community in e-commerce transactions.”

The official said the ministry always seeks to launch initiatives aimed at regulating trade transactions through the enactment of legal frameworks and legislation that enhance confidence among the dealers.

This will help in building a productive economy that is able to compete globally by elevating the private sector, individuals and institutions, and enabling them to play its national role in advancing economic development.

Mr Alashraaf said, “e-commerce today opens new horizons for businesses in various sectors, especially as the volume of e-commerce sales around the world is increasing... This academy will provide Bahraini businessmen and start-ups with the necessary electronic technical skills and train them on how to use global platforms such as Amazon that can help immensely in electronic marketing and development.”

All courses offered under the programme will be funded by Tamkeen.

The first course under the programme started yesterday with the participation of 25 trainees.

The four-day course titled Mastering eCommerce Masterclass is running at the Wyndham Grand, Bahrain Bay.

It is focusing on building knowledge of the components required to start and run an e-commerce business and how one can evaluate strategies and platforms.

The second course titled Mastering Marketplace eCommerce will run from December 10-13 and the third one will be Internet Marketing Associate Training from January 14-17 next year.
