World Health Organisation hails leadership

Manama: The government’s strenuous efforts to mitigate fallout from Covid-19 have won international praise.

The Geneva-based World Health Organisation (WHO) hailed the government, chaired by His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, for creating a wide-ranging community momentum to halve the spread of the pandemic quickly.

WHO director general Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus praised the Premier’s role in instilling solidarity among people which, he said, contributed to the successful national and global response to combat the pandemic.

He underlined the Premier’s support to the international community to stand united in fighting Covid-19 which knows no geographic or political frontiers.

In a letter addressed to the Premier, Dr Ghebreyesus described the Premier’s political leadership as being indispensable for harnessing domestic and international efforts to confront the pandemic.

He updated the Premier about his meetings with Geneva-based international diplomatic missions to discuss quick-response strategic plan which would channel international efforts, taking into account the specific situation of each country.

The Premier underlined the government’s quick response to Covid-19, fast-tracking precautionary measures that enable Bahrain to succeed in containing the pandemic.

“Everyone in Bahrain is a soldier in his place, devoted to protect his country and society from the enemy,” said the Premier.

He said that the government has been proactive in taking pre-emptive measures, harnessing people’s support and raising awareness through the media.

The Premier hailed the WHO-led drive to harness international efforts and engage all countries in combating the pandemic.

He underlined the government’s directives for Bahrain’s health authorities to continuously co-ordinate with the WHO.
