Works Minister unveils development projects in Northern Area Municipality

 Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Minister, Essam bin Abdulla Khalaf, said that the sanitation projects are among the priories of the Works Ministry and the government, noting that work is in full swing to complete the infrastructure of the sewage projects in the kingdom.

 

Khalaf indicated that the old regions in the Kingdom have been connected to the sewage network completely, adding that most new areas have also been connected to the sewage networks, while work is underway to connect the remaining ones.

The minister was speaking while meeting the chairman and members of the Northern Area Municipal Council, with the participation of a number of senior officials from both sides.  

 

He lauded the constant support of the Ministerial Committee for Development and Infrastructure Projects and the Ministry of Finance and National Economy for the Works Ministry’s projects.

 

He pointed out that the capacity of the sewage network is increasing steadily to cope with the urban development in the kingdom, citing the project to raise the capacity of the Tubli Sewage Treatment Plant from 200,000 cubic metres to 400,000 cubic metres per day. He also unveiled the Ministry’s plans to provide sewage suction tankers.

 

The minister said that work is underway to launch a number of projects, such as roads and car parks, in addition to service projects, such as central markets, gardens and walkways.

 

He also shed light on the National Afforestation Plan, and stressed the important role played by municipal councils to ensure its success, praising the Cabinet’s endorsement of a memorandum aimed at doubling the number of trees in Bahrain by 2035.

In this regard, he affirmed keenness to implement the constant directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to increase green spaces across the kingdom.

 

Northern Municipal Area’s Municipal Council’s Chairman, Ahmed Al-Kooheji, expressed appreciation for the level of the ongoing cooperation between the Council and Works Ministry, lauding the Ministry’s support for the local municipal council’s development and service projects.

 

He also praised the minister’s constant follow-up on the local municipal council’s proposals and remarks, embodying the strategic goals of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s comprehensive development project.
