Work fees slashed for three months
MANAMA: Monthly labour fees have been slashed for three months, starting July 1 in support of the private sector amid Covid-19 downturn.
The Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) yesterday announced the 50 per cent reduction which applies to fees levied on the issuance and renewal of work permits.
It said businesses hardest hit by the pandemic will be exempted fro paying fees for July, August and September.
The reprieve is in line with stimulus announced during a Cabinet meeting, chaired by His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, on Monday.
His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier, attended the session.
Health and construction sectors among others may benefit from the subsidy on condition of providing evidence of 100 per cent damage to a special committee to be set up soon, sources said, adding Press establishments haven’t been included in the subsidy package yet. Nearly 10 sectors were found to be worst hit by the coronavirus pandemic including tourism, education, restaurants, spare parts, cinema, sports clubs and salons.
