Vow to protect rights of Bahraini workers

Bahrain reiterated its firm resolve to protect the stability of Bahraini employees amid the fight against Covid-19.

Labour and Social Development Minister Jameel Humaidan said Bahrainis’ rights and gains would not be compromised by the challenges posed by the pandemic which is taking its toll on the economy.

In an exclusive statement to Akhbar Al Khaleej, he underlined the government’s efforts to maintain labour market stability and support the private sector to withstand the current challenges.

“The government has decided to shoulder the salaries of Bahrainis working in the private sector for three months and foot the utility bills,” he said.

He said that the ministry is monitoring the labour market trends to settle any disputes, adding that the number of complaints submitted by laid-off workers is limited.

He denied alleged mass lay-offs, adding that all sectors have maintained the normal rates of Bahrainisation, pointing out that the number of Bahrainis who applied for insurance against unemployment programme is still at low levels.
