Use of treated water rising

Bahrain has boosted its production of treated water by 12 million cubic metres over the past 10 months.

According to latest figures released by the Works Ministry, 74m cubic metres were produced between January and last month, up from 62m.

Assistant under-secretary for sanitary drainage Fathi Al Fare’a attributed the increase to the use of cutting-edge filtration and sterilisation techniques.

The treated water has been used to irrigate about 500 farms as well as a number of main roads throughout Bahrain.

The total length of the treated water transport network reached 100km, while the length of the treated water distribution network has exceeded 160km.
