The Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism heads the delegation of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the Twelfth Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization

Geneva, June 12 (BNA) HE Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Zayed bin Rashid Al Zayani, will head the Bahraini delegation participating in the 12th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization, held in Geneva from June 12 to June 15 2022, in the presence of Ambassador Dr. Youssef Abdul Karim Bucheery, delegate Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations Office and Other Organizations in Geneva, and Sheikh Hamad bin Salman Al Khalifa, Assistant Undersecretary for Domestic and Foreign Trade.

During the conference, a recorded speech of His Excellency the Minister was presented at the organization’s building to celebrate the opening of the conference, during which he conveyed the greetings of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the Great King of the Kingdom of Bahrain, may God protect him, and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister. Allah.

The Minister praised the efforts of the Director-General of the World Trade Organization, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iwala, welcoming the delegations participating in this conference, wishing the desired goals and the success of the work of the conference, stressing the importance of the multilateral global trading system and the support of the Kingdom of Bahrain for it and its role in getting out of antiquities The negative imposed by the pandemic on the global economy, praising the pivotal and important role of the World Trade Organization in this aspect.

He added that the Kingdom of Bahrain welcomes discussions related to the field of e-commerce, digital economy and small and medium enterprises as a prerequisite for creating an open and fair trade environment, in light of the recognition of inclusive trade through the World Trade Organization as a catalyst for economic growth and poverty reduction that contributes to promoting sustainable development through the United Nations plan 2030 and the accompanying sustainable development goals. He also stressed the importance of not placing obstacles in the way of the movement of food commodities in light of the global food security crisis.

The minister affirmed the Kingdom of Bahrain's firm support for the Arab countries that are currently negotiating their accession to the World Trade Organization, and its support for granting observer status in the World Trade Organization to the League of Arab States.

During the conference, a number of topics on the meeting's agenda were discussed.
