The Chairman of the SCH outlines Bahrain’s quarantine, isolation and treatment capacities
HE Lt. Gen. Dr. Shaikh Mohamed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Supreme Council of Health and Head of the National Taskforce for Combating the Coronavirus (COVID-19), today issued a notice on Bahrain’s current health care system capacity.
HE Shaikh Mohamed confirmed that the Kingdom of Bahrain has increased its capacity to identify and treat COVID-19 as part of its comprehensive approach to contain the virus and prevent it from spreading.
HE Shaikh Mohamed noted that HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister’s leadership of national efforts continues to minimise the impact of COVID-19 and safeguard the well-being of citizens and residents.
HE affirmed that hospital beds remain available to meet surge capacity, highlighting that the current capacity for treatment centres stands at 1,667 beds of which 225 beds are occupied, and the capacity for quarantine centres stands at 2,504 beds of which 172 beds are occupied. Additionally, the compartmentalised structure of quarantine centres allows for quick conversion to treatment centres if required.
On this note, HE added that Bahrain has conducted over 28,000 tests for COVID-19, and contact tracing activities are underway to reduce COVID-19 transmission by identification, isolation and treatment.
HE concluded by praising the work of the treatment and quarantine centres, including the around-the-clock specialised medical care offered, noting that these efforts reflect Bahrain’s ability to address the pandemic while preserving the health of citizens and residents.
