Stricter measures at central markets proposed to combat Covid-19

An urgent proposal to provide stricter entry checks, social distancing stickers and hygiene equipment to combat the spread of Covid-19 at central markets similar to other shopping outlets has been presented today.

Five MPs led by Parliament public utilities and environment affairs committee vice-chairman Ahmed Al Demistani are demanding the government orders the Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry implements stricter measures.

"We have given the ministry time to sort out the matter over the past few days but the hectic and chaotic scenes are unacceptable and need to be immediately addressed."

There are six markets – in Manama, Muharraq, East Riffa, Nuwaidrat, Jidhafs and Sitra.
