Spotlight on first causeway

A lecture shedding light on the iconic Shaikh Hamad Causeway will be held today at 6pm at Pearls Trail Visitors Centre.

Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (Baca) will host Dr Nader Kadhem who will deliver the lecture themed “Long Journey of Hope to Reunion: Illustrated and Documented History of Shaikh Hamad Causeway”.

The lecture reviews the illustrated and documented history of the first modern bridge in the history of Bahrain, namely Shaikh Hamad Causeway that links Muharraq Island with the city of Manama.

The lecture displays visual sources and archive documents that illustrate this project since its inception, then the multiple modifications it underwent in the 1960s, until the present time’s retouches.

It was considered the biggest and most important project undertaken by the government at the time, when the country was an archipelago made up of a group of islands and small islets.
