Smart meters plan on track

A TOTAL of 185,279 smart electricity meters and 211,343 water meters have been installed in Bahrain.

Electricity and Water Affairs Minister Wael Al Mubarak told the Shura Council in writing that smart meters constitute 41.9 per cent of the 442,544 registered electricity meters and 76.8pc of the 275,070 water meters.

“Remote electricity meter reading connectivity is 83.4pc complete, while for water meter reading connectivity is 66.1pc,” said Mr Al Mubarak.

“For electricity all new meters and connectivity will be completed by the end of 2023 and for water, our work will end during the first quarter of next year.

“The new system will enable us to know usage directly, monitor meter efficiency and assess consumption besides detecting damage, malfunction or fault automatically.

“All meters are bought from trusted sources and undergo extensive tests to ensure they are up to standards.”

The minister’s reply, received yesterday by Shura chairman Ali Saleh Al Saleh, was in response to a question by member Sabah Al Dossary.
