Shorter work timings sought during Ramadan

AN even shorter working day for civil servants during Ramadan has been approved unanimously by MPs during their weekly session.

They are calling for a 9am to 1pm timing to replace the traditional 8am to 2pm period to help those fasting.

The urgent proposal, which will now be reviewed by the Cabinet, was presented by five MPs, led by public utilities and environment affairs committee chairman Mohammed Buhamood.

“The shorter timings are necessary due to the hardships of fasting and also the current health situation with Covid-19 that could make civil servants vulnerable to the illness,” he said.
