Setting up environmental police discussed

Manama, Dec. 9 (BNA): Personal Representative of His Majesty the King and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Environment, His Highness Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa, held today a virtual meeting with Interior Minister, General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, in the presence of the Public Security Chief and the Coastguard Commander.

 

HH Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa praised the efforts of the Interior Ministry and its national role in maintaining public security and safety. He also lauded the ministry’s proactive and dedicated efforts in combating the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

 

During the meeting, HH Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa presented a project on setting up an environmental police which will take charge, among its missions, of preserving marine environment so as to ensure sustainability of marine resources, protect wildlife and enforce relevant laws and resolutions within the framework of implementing the national environment strategy and protecting resources for the posterity.

 

For his part, the Interior Minister commended the role of the Supreme Council for Environment and its keenness on protecting marine life. He pointed out that setting up an environmental police will represent an added value to security performance and contribute to protecting natural resources. He stressed the importance of promoting the environmental culture and increasing citizens’ awareness.

 

Executive means to create the environment police and boosting community partnership in protecting the environment were discussed during the meeting.
