Second phase of 'Forever Green' Campaign kicks off

Manama, Oct. 31 (BNA): The National Initiative for Agricultural Development (NIAD) has announced the inauguration of the second phase of the National Afforestation Campaign, "Forever Green", at five vital sites in the Capital and Muharraq governorates, with the support of Bahrain National Holding Company and its subsidiaries, and Infracorp,

With the launch of the second phase, NIAD aims to carry on its efforts to achieve the aspirations of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of HM the King and NIAD Advisory Board Chairperson, and to support the kingdom's strategies to increase the green area through coordination with the public and private sectors.

25,000 trees and shrubs will be planted at more than 40 sites across the kingdom to contribute to achieving the objectives of the National Afforestation Strategy.

The Bahrain National Holding Company supported the afforestation of the Dry Dock Highway, which was selected for being close to the Bahrain International Airport and a number of residential, commercial and industrial areas.

The company also sponsored the afforestation of three additional sites, namely the Dry Dock Garden, Al-Banna Park in Muharraq and Sitra Walkway.

On this occasion, BIAD Secretary-General, Shaikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa, asserted that the launch of the second phase of the national afforestation campaign builds on the efforts made by the government and the relevant authorities to preserve the environment and mitigate the effects of climate change.

Shaikha Maram commended the pivotal and important role played by the private sector in contributing to positive environmental and climate change.

She affirmed that the government's tireless efforts should be coupled with civil and institutional awareness on the importance of afforestation and concerted efforts among all parties to achieve the desired environmental impact, maintain air quality, and reduce Carbon emissions to reach net-zero by 2060.
