Push for healthy nutritional practices
A WEEK dedicated to spreading healthy nutritional practices is kicking off today, the Health Ministry announced.
The Gulf Nutrition Week, taking place until Monday, is a joint GCC campaign aimed at promoting nutritional awareness in the societies and educate people on how to choose the right food.
“Gulf countries share similar economic factors that can lead to unhealthy eating patterns or habits, which cause widespread health issues in society,” said a ministry statement yesterday.
The nutrition department at the ministry’s Public Health Directorate will host lectures and distribute educational material to encourage a healthy eating culture.
It will also organise forums on nutrition, organise workshops aimed at specialists and the general public, and host numerous other activities.
Additionally, the department will produce articles and put together scientific information which are set to be published through different kinds of media and online platforms.
It will also conduct studies and surveys to find the most prevalent issues related to malnutrition in Bahrain and will evaluate the country’s general nutrition trends.
“The programmes and initiatives follow recommendations by the World Health Organisation,” added the statement.
These efforts will be made in co-operation with civil institutions and academic establishments like schools, institutes and universities.
