Protecting the nation

Manama: Bahrain continues to harness all its capabilities amid these challenging times as it fights the novel coronavirus, His Majesty King Hamad said yesterday.

The health crisis represents a continuous challenge with effects threatening opportunities for comprehensive development, especially socio-economic gains, he said.

His Majesty highlighted pre-emptive directives he had given to launch a financial and economic stimulus package to contain the fallout.

The King was addressing the second meeting of the Supreme Defence Council, which was held at Sakhir Palace, in the presence of His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa.

He commended relentless efforts to protect national security, citizens and residents’ safety and maintain the development momentum.

He praised the Premier’s designation of Bahraini Doctor’s Day, which will be celebrated on the first Wednesday of November, and the launch of an award named after the Prime Minister to honour outstanding physicians.

He also hailed Team Bahrain, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier, which is monitoring the implementation of the package to maintain economic growth.

He valued the role of frontline Covid fighters and stressed the importance of individual responsibility and community partnership to support national efforts to beat the pandemic.

The Premier paid tribute to the King and praised the people for their unwavering allegiance.

His Majesty’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs, National Security Adviser and defence council secretary general Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa briefed the session on efforts to enhance defence, security and health capabilities.
