Proposal to set up new fund to cover Covid-19 costs approved

An urgent proposal to set up a new fund to help cover the cost of efforts to combat the Coronavirus Disease (Covid-19) and help the underprivileged and affected was approved by MPs today.

They want businessmen, companies and banks along with private establishments to contribute towards the fund.

Several MPs have proposed donating a quarter of their pay towards the fund.

However, MPs rejected a proposal to suspend the circulation of newspapers.

The proposal was submitted by Parliament services committee vice-chairwoman Dr Sawsan Kamal who suggested that newspapers restrict themselves to digital platforms.
