People cautioned not to fall for online, social media investment scams

Manama, May 31 (BNA): The General Directorate of Anti-Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security

has cautioned Bahrainis and residents of tactics, including misleading advertisements, fraudsters use to lure investors into Internet scams, warning them their rights cannot be guaranteed.

 

The directorate said that recent advertisements of fake trading and investment companies have requested clicking on an electronic link and registering by filling out a form with the victim's personal information.

 

People must exercise the highest levels of caution and avoid investing, contributing, dealing or trading with any amounts in any of the activities and business of securities or foreign currencies with any person, institution, company or website, including social media, unless they have obtained the necessary licenses from the Central Bank of Bahrain for such businesses and activities, it warned

 

Citizens and residents should use the Central Bank of Bahrain website to check the licensed financial institutions, the directorate said.
