Paris opens streets to restaurants and bars from June 2

In order to help restaurants, cafés and bars to resume works in the best health conditions possible, Paris mayor Anne Hidalgo considers giving entire streets for them, and for free, until September 30, 2020. Restaurants and cafés interested must sign up on Paris City hall website starting Sunday May 31 and sign a charter committing them to respect the public area and neighbors. Paris mayor is also considering temporary closure, between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. about twenty streets to keep them for café, bar and restaurant terraces.

On May 28, 2020 Prime Minister has said that Paris restaurants, cafés and bars were allowed to only open their terraces as long as they respect social distancing measures. So, as Paris mayor already spoke about the possibility to let restaurateurs take over sidewalks with terraces and keep entire streets for restaurateurs upon some conditions, here is that Anne Hidalgo publicly discoles her support plan.

Paris restaurateurs must first sign a good manner charter to respect the neighborhood. They have 10 rules to stick by to be able to take over the public area. They must close at 10 p.m., respect pedestrians' trafic and access for emergency, they also must use "light and aesthetical" furniture and clean up the street within a 25-m perimeter around their premise.

Starting this Sunday, restaurateurs can file a request and proposes layout. Inquiries will be studied and the operation will start on June 2, 2020 before ending on September 30.

Another measure considered enabling restaurants, cafés and bars to welcome more patrons? "Temporarily closing some streets from 7p.m. to 10 p.m. [...] it will be an extremely soft system, in return, restaurateurs must respect a charter" Paris deputy mayor for urbanism Jean-Louis Missika explains. Once again, rules are to be respected so is the health protocol, pedestrian traffic and emergency access, inhabitants' peace, without forgetting leaving streets clean. So, what rules and neighborhoods will have to temporarily close? "We have already listed about twenty places in ParisAnne Hidalgo said in Le Parisien on May 31, such as the Place des Vosges, around the Carreau du Temple, the Place Saint-Marthe, the rue Lepic as well as around the Canal de l'Ourcq.

This beautiful idea will be the occasion to support all small restaurateurs that have no terrace and have to stay closed until June 22, 2020 at least.
