Pandemic 'negatively affects all vital economic indicators in Bahrain'

The Covid-19 pandemic has negatively affected all vital economic indicators in Bahrain, it was revealed.

During a high-level meeting with legislators, government officials said that travel through Bahrain International Airport has dropped by 98 per cent since the outbreak.

They also revealed that visitors to shopping malls have dropped by 91pc, while hotel occupancy dropped by 72pc, and fuel sales reduced by 32pc.

During the online meeting, which is taking place now, officials also said that movement of transport trucks leaving the country has reduced by 70pc, while movement into Bahrain has dropped by 39pc.

The urgent meeting is being held with members of Parliament and Shura Council, as the three-month spending from the BD4.3 billion Covid-19 support package is set to finish.
