Operational budgets of ministries and government departments slashed by 30 per cent

Manama: The operational budgets of ministries and government departments have been slashed by 30 per cent.

The measure was announced during the Cabinet meeting, chaired by His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa.

His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier, took part in the remote session.

A number of construction and consulting projects will also be rescheduled to absorb emergency and emerging expenses to combat the coronavirus (Covid-19) within the ceiling of the 2020 national budget.

It follows recommendations by the ministerial committee for financial and economic affairs and fiscal balance.

The Premier instructed the same committee to postpone collection of some government dues owed by citizens and submit a report detailing its financial implications and implementation procedure.

  • Greetings were extended to His Majesty King Hamad, the Premier and the Crown Prince marking the advent of Ramadan.

Congratulations and wishes of further progress and prosperity were also extended to the people of Bahrain, the Arab and Islamic nations.

  • A draft civil service edict was endorsed to regulate – the promotion of employees subjected to salary deduction penalty; special unpaid leave; and extension of service for 60-year-old employees and for those holding senior positions.

A second draft law fixing salaries and specifying job benefits, and their eligibility terms and regulations was also approved.

It aims to regulate the payment of annual periodic allowance due to the employee who is referred to the investigation until his accountability procedures are completed.

The session also discussed a draft law allowing the establishment of sports clubs as companies in accordance with the provisions of the Commercial Companies Law.
