New support for business

Bahrain’s Labour Fund, Tamkeen, has announced plans to launch special independent programmes in support of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises.

The new plans also include programmes to support large enterprises as they contribute to employing a large number of Bahrainis and spurring national economic growth.

At an open meeting with members of Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) yesterday, Tamkeen’s partnership and customer support director Essam Hammad said the organisation will continue to support Bahraini employees’ wages through a National Employment and Companies Support Programme in co-operation with the Labour and Social Development Ministry.

“Under the scheme, Tamkeen provides 70 per cent wage support for Bahrainis in the first year, 50pc in the second and 30pc in the third, starting from the date of employment, for those registered as unemployed. The programme is ongoing and Tamkeen continues to receive applications,” he said.

In reply to a question about apprenticeship programmes, corporate and customer support director Ahmed Janahi said Tamkeen and the Labour and Social Development Ministry have a joint team in place in charge of studying apprenticeship programmes to support vocational education enabling Bahrainis to be employees of choice.
