New expo centre opens
A new state-of-the art exhibition and convention centre in Sakhir, the largest of its kind in the region, opened its doors last night with a glitzy and show-stopping ceremony.
Exhibition World Bahrain (EWB) was inaugurated by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, on behalf of His Majesty King Hamad.
HRH Prince Salman congratulated His Majesty on the launch of the centre, noting that the achievement is a culmination of steps taken by the Kingdom’s forefather, the late Amir HH Shaikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa, and the efforts of the late premier HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa.
He also highlighted the importance of competitiveness as a fundamental element of the kingdom’s economy, which has bolstered investments, promoted economic progress and created quality opportunities for citizens.
The Crown Prince and Prime Minister said tourism remains a leading economic sector, adding that its growth has been a key driver of the Kingdom’s comprehensive development.
“The launch of the EWB is a new milestone in the kingdom’s economic development,” he added, emphasising its role in advancing competitiveness and positioning the kingdom as a major destination for regional and global conventions.
A presentation was given in which HRH Prince Salman was briefed on the EWB halls and amenities, as well as the innovative and world-class services it will provide to users, event organisers and visitors.
Spanning an area of 95,000sqm, the landmark centre features a grand hall with a 4,000-seat capacity and 10 other exhibition halls.
The centre is adjacent to the Bahrain International Circuit and the Al Dana Amphitheatre, and neighbours the soon-to-be-developed Bahrain International Sports City, with easy access to Bahrain International Airport, major hotels, and tourist attractions.
The state-of-the-art architecture showcases the richness of Arabian art and culture through its innovative design, complemented by adaptable spaces for hosting large conventions, exhibitions, and entertainment events.
The complex houses more than 95 meeting rooms equipped with the latest technologies, and a large, dedicated space for offices and backstage events. It also features a 250-seat dining area, accompanied by 25 restaurants and cafes, as well as an outdoor terrace and three majlises, to provide an enriching and first-class experience for guests and visitors.
“Exhibition World Bahrain will be a vital enabler in positioning Bahrain as an attractive destination for hosting global events and conferences, as part of the Kingdom’s Tourism Strategy objectives,” said Tourism Minister Fatima Al Sairafi. “It will also serve to diversify the country’s economy, by supporting the growth of the MICE industry and related sectors.”
Ms Al Sairafi extended her gratitude to HRH Prince Salman for supporting the tourism sector.
She highlighted Bahrain’s longstanding history as a destination linking the east and west for trade, which has furthered its position as a global tourist destination.
A short film was screened about the history of Bahrain exhibitions, which was followed by a performance by the orchestra Earth Harp, and a dazzling fireworks display.
Meanwhile, the centre will host a series of major shows that kick off today, including Cityscape, Jewellery Arabia 2022 and Scent Arabia.
