A proposed financial package to further offset the impacts of Covid-19 has been presented by Parliament.

The new blueprint includes supporting wages in affected companies, besides taxi and bus drivers and kindergarten teachers for three more months, and exempting Bahrainis and affected companies from electricity and water bills for three additional months.

MPs also want loan installments for Bahrainis to be deferred until December.

It will be put forward at tomorrow’s meeting between legislators and the government.

It was presented today by a group of MPs, led by Ebrahim Al Nefaei, to Parliament’s financial and economic affairs committee chairman Ahmed Al Salloom.

It also includes extending and increasing Tamkeen's support for micro and small companies for three more months.

MPs also want to continue waiving rent on government, municipal and endowments properties for thee more months.

While financial support for the most affected sectors has to be detailed in a separate proposal.

It comes as the government's BD4.3bn package is set to finish on June 30, with the exception of loan deferrals.
