Manama among top five cities of the future

MANAMA: The fDi Intelligence division of the Financial Times has named Manama among the ‘Global City of the Future’ 2021 top five.

It has also ranked Bahrain’s capital first among small and mid-sized Global Cities of the Future for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) strategy.

Bahrain Economic Development Board (EDB) chief executive Khalid Humaidan said foreign direct investment made up 80 per cent of the nominal gross domestic product (GDP) in Bahrain in 2019, representing double the global average.

“The policy we adopt to attract investments has received recognition and praise,” he said.

“This international acclaim is a further confirmation that our board of directors has put in place the right strategy to proceed forward with our agenda to attract investments.”

Bahrain has also been recognised among leading countries in the effectiveness index in terms of cost of doing business and business-friendly environment, ranking sixth globally and third in the Middle East and North Africa.

It has also been ranked seventh globally and second in the Middle East and North Africa for small and mid-sized cities.
