Leadership’s efforts key to Covid success

Parliament Speaker Fouzia Zainal received World Health Organisation (WHO) director general Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

She affirmed Bahrain’s pioneering professional and humanitarian dealing with the coronavirus pandemic was the outcome of His Majesty King Hamad’s directives and the national efforts of Team Bahrain, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, which are based on a comprehensive and integrated approach that has strengthened societal awareness and collective action.

She highlighted the effective role played by the legislative branch and all state departments in supporting Team Bahrain, noting that co-operation between Parliament and the government in approving a legislative system that coped with the developments of the pandemic contributed to overcoming its challenges and mitigating its impacts on citizens and residents.

Ms Zainal also informed the WHO chief about the legislative efforts that have contributed to supporting the integrated health system in the kingdom, in addition to the precautionary measures taken by Parliament and its secretariat general to ensure the continuity of parliamentary work.

The WHO chief lauded the role played by Parliament in Bahrain’s pioneering efforts, led by HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to deal with the pandemic.

Shura Council Chairman Ali Saleh Al Saleh has said that the opening of a permanent WHO office in Bahrain is an international recognition of the kingdom’s distinguished status and pioneering regional and international role in the health field, reflecting His Majesty King Hamad’s vision on the need to provide world-level health services to ensure the health and safety of everyone.

Mr Al Saleh expressed deep pride in the successes being achieved by Team Bahrain, led by HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, enabling the kingdom to reach 99 per cent recovery rate.

He also praised the patriotic efforts of frontliners in protecting society from the pandemic and paid tribute to the Bahraini people for their commitment to precautionary measures.
