King’s role in encouraging voluntary work is praised

Global Council for Tolerance and Peace president Dr Ahmed Al Jarwan has praised the role of Bahrain under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad in further enhancing and supporting voluntary work at the Arab and international levels.

UAE-based Dr Al Jarwan has been honoured with Shaikh Isa Bin Ali Award for Voluntary Work.

Speaking in Abu Dhabi, he noted that this award represented an incentive to encourage and spread the culture of voluntary work and highlight its moral value as a national and humanitarian duty.

According to Emirates News Agency (WAM), Dr Al Jarwan praised the Bahraini-UAE ties in various fields, which support and enhance joint Arab action.

The award is presented in September every year, in conjunction with the Arab Volunteer Day celebrations, and is organised by the Good Word Society in co-operation with the Arab Volunteer Union.

It aims to encourage volunteers to provide innovative solutions through volunteer work that contributes to confronting various challenges and crises activating their roles in the field of voluntary work as well as promoting its culture.

During the ceremony in Bahrain on Thursday, 15 Arab voluntary work pioneers were honoured.

Those honoured, apart from Dr Al Jarwan, included Saudi Municipality and Rural Affairs and Housing Minister Majed bin Abdullah Al Hogail, Egyptian Youth and Sports Minister Dr Ashraf Sobhy, Oman Olympic Committee president Shaikh Khalid bin Mohammed Al Zubair and Royal Humanitarian Foundation board of trustees deputy chairman Shaikh Adnan Al Qattan.

Good World Society honorary president and Cabinet Affairs Ministry Under-Secretary Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa said at the ceremony that the award has achieved its noble goals through recognising the efforts of volunteers to serve their communities and countries.

“Bahrain has always been a pioneer in the fields of community service, voluntary work and noble stances, which has contributed to strengthening its leading position as a civilised country that upholds the values of humanity, fraternity and solidarity, and encourages initiatives aimed at achieving peace, security and stability on a global level,” he said.
