Industrial air quality probe

Manama: The Premier yesterday ordered an environmental assessment of Ma’ameer and its surrounding areas.

The study was ordered during a Cabinet session held remotely.

It was chaired by His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa.

His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier, took part.

The study will focus on air quality and emissions by factories and industrial establishments.

It is also expected to come up with solutions to limit pollution threatening the health and safety of citizens and residents.

The Premier demanded that work be speeded up on widening the Ma’ameer water channel to allow better circulation in Tubli Bay.

The Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry and the Oil Ministry have been handed the task.

The Premier reiterated the government’s keenness to conserve biodiversity and protect the sustainability of the ecosystems – as Bahrain joins other nations in marking World Environment Day, which falls on Friday.

The Premier also followed up on the progress of services-related projects and stressed the government’s success in providing development and health infrastructure that has enabled Bahrain to withstand Covid-19 fallout.

He praised His Majesty King Hamad’s directives which, he said, gave the government the impetus to better deal with the pandemic.

The Premier hailed the Crown Prince’s efforts in combating the virus.

In a separate development, the Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry was assigned to study the condition of roads in Karzakan and assess the needs of the village.
