ICT ‘key driver of sustainable development’

The National Space Science Agency (NSSA) took part in a forum on sustainable development at the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) under the theme, “Information and Communication Technologies for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals”.

NSSA chief executive Dr Mohamed Al Aseeri affirmed that the participation of the space agencies in this important event is one of the pillars of the global communications system for the huge data that satellites provide that nourish the global information society.

The event highlighted the role these agencies play in supporting countries to achieve all the sustainable development goals.

Dr Al Aseeri noted that the WSIS is the most suitable platform to engage ICT as a key driver of sustainable development and Bahrain participates with all efforts to achieve the sustainable development goals and optimal prosperity.

The NSSA explained that the forum’s agenda was devoted to discussing how to harness information and communication technology to accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and to benefit from the experiences during the Covid-19 pandemic to build more inclusive, resilient and sustainable societies and economies. Moreover, to enhance partnerships and digital co-operation to achieve the goals set by the SDG2030.
