Gulf Air appoints Shaikh Ali as strategy and planning director

MANAMA: Gulf Air has appointed Shaikh Ali bin Mohammed Al Khalifa as director for strategy and planning to manage one of the airline’s main business units.

Shaikh Ali will directly report to the chief executive as he leads the unit that is responsible for the national carrier’s long-term strategic plans as well as its network growth.

He has garnered a vast experience in the airline business since joining Gulf Air’s revenue management department in 2005 as a route analyst.

Shaikh Ali then progressed to the role of senior manager for revenue management in 2013.

He held that title for four years before moving in February 2017 to the position of network planning senior manager, which he has held till now.

Shaikh Ali has a bachelor’s of science in systems analysis and engineering from the George Washington University in Washington DC and an MBA from DePaul University.

He also holds an MSc in Air Transport Management from City University London.

In a statement yesterday, Gulf Air said it is committed to investing in its Bahraini workforce and their career development, and it continues to provide opportunities for Bahraini nationals to take over higher management positions in the company.

With 84 per cent of employees that are based at the headquarters in Muharraq being Bahraini, including 97pc of its first officers, 100pc of second officers and 97pc of its male cabin crew.

The airline said it is a leader in the Bahrainisation programme in the kingdom as it provides the opportunity for local and experienced talent to work in its various business areas.
