Green light for sporting events to resume

MANAMA: National sports competitions are to resume by mid-July – but in empty stadiums – in line with precautionary measures to contain the coronavirus.

The Government Executive Committee, chaired by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier, gave the green light yesterday.

The decision was based on a presentation by the Youth and Sports Ministry and the recommendations of the National Taskforce for Combating Covid-19.

The committee also gave the go-ahead for sports professionals and national teams to resume their indoor and outdoor training, pending strict commitment to preventive protocols.

The Executive Committee, which met online, discussed latest developments in dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic.
