Futuristic hospital run by solar power on the way

WORK is on track on an eco-friendly solar power-run private hospital in Bahrain, it has emerged.

The state-of-the-art BD25 million King Hamad American Mission Hospital in A’ali is expected to be commissioned in November next year.

According to American Mission Hospital (AMH) corporate chief executive Dr George Cheriyan, work on the project is “progressing steadily”.

“The structure of the hospital is complete and work has moved into the interiors which is complex with the kind of infrastructure that is going into it,” he told the GDN, adding that 40 per cent of the project is completed.

The hospital will also be the first to introduce a hybrid operating system featuring robots on a large scale.

With around 3,000 solar panels to be installed on its roof, the hospital is expected to generate 1MW of power to run the multi-speciality facility.

Dr Cheriyan said tie-ups with international healthcare facilities would raise the status of the hospital, whilst also adding value to the nation’s healthcare sector in general.

“The facility is unique in that it has been conceived and developed based on futuristic digitalised platforms which aims at linking patients with the hospital 24x7 if needed.

“We are talking of real-time delivery of healthcare.”

The hospital complex next to Ramli Mall will be built in two phases. The first phase consists of a maternity and children’s hospital and the second a 100-bed multi-speciality hospital.

Covering nearly 30,000sqm, it will include single-room intensive care units, an imaging centre, infertility centre, 300-seat auditorium for meetings and conferences, a special needs children’s development assessment and treatment centre and 400 parking slots.

The hospital will also be the first private healthcare facility to house training and research in the field. AMH has signed a deal with the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland – Bahrain to provide clinical teaching for medical and nursing students.

The A’ali hospital will be AMH’s fifth location in Bahrain, after Manama, Saar, Amwaj and Riffa.
