Funds pour in for Bahrain's virus fight

HUNDREDS of thousands of dinars have started pouring in for a campaign aimed at raising funds to support Bahrain’s efforts to combat the Coronavirus Disease (Covid-19), it has emerged.

The initiative, announced on Sunday, is led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier.

His Majesty’s Representative for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs, National Security Adviser and Royal Humanitarian Foundation (RHF) board of trustees chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa gave directives to launch the campaign under the title “There is Good in Us”.

The first donation came from the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) which pledged BD300,000 to the project.

BCCI chairman Sameer Nass urged all BCCI members, business owners, commercial and industrial establishments along with companies and banks to participate in the initiative.

The Finance and National Economy Ministry has allocated an account with the National Bank of Bahrain (NBB) for establishments, companies and individuals to deposit their donations.

The account name is: MOFNE THE NATIONAL EFFORT TO COMBAT THE CORONAVIRUS COVID 19, and the number is IBAN: BH66 NBOB 0000 0082 1093 70.

The initiative has been co-ordinated with the National Taskforce for Combating Covid-19, headed by Supreme Council for Health President Lieutenant General Dr Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Khalifa.

The drive is also in tandem with all efforts and initiatives led by the Supreme Council for Women, the Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Ministry and in co-operation with parliament and the BCCI.

RHF secretary general Dr Mustafa Al Sayed underlined Bahrain’s success in undertaking early preparations competently and attaining full readiness in no time, thus earning the World Health Organisation’s praise.

He praised private sector institutions and individuals for their keenness to support national efforts to combat the pandemic, which, he said, stems from a national sense of the importance of harnessing all efforts and social responsibility.
