France's business climate improves further in August: INSEE

PARIS, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- French business managers' confidence in the country's economic and employment climate improved in August for the third consecutive month, official data showed on Thursday.

The business climate composite indicator, compiled from the answers of business managers in the main market sectors, gained 7 points to 91, but remained below its long-term average of 100, national statistics bureau INSEE said.

The August index has sharply increased compared with a record low of 53 registered in April, when the country was under anti-coronavirus confinement. However, it was far from a pre-lockdown level of 105, it added in a monthly survey.

Local businessmen's appreciation of manufacturing increased by 11 points to 93. The composite indicator for service stood at 94, up by 6 points from July, while that for retail trade rose to 93 from 88.

In August, the employment climate has also recovered sharply. At 88, the index gained 12 points compared with July, said INSEE. Enditem
