Fourth estate an essential partner

THE media is an essential partner in helping achieve the kingdom’s comprehensive development goals led by His Majesty King Hamad, declared His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

He added that the Press played a responsible and pivotal role by supporting the country’s economy and showcasing the wide-ranging achievements to a regional and global audience.

HRH Prince Salman commended the heads of media houses for their outstanding efforts, and congratulated winners of the seventh edition of the Prime Minister’s Press Awards, held under his patronage at the Four Seasons Hotel Bahrain Bay.

“We are very proud of the efforts made by the kingdom’s media professionals to raise awareness and knowledge in a responsible, fair and ethical manner,” he said.

Awards were then presented to the following media professionals:

Best Column: Khalil Yousif (Al Ayam); Best Investigative Journalism: Rashid Al Ghayeb (Al Bilad); Best Interview: Hassan Al Sitri (Al Watan) and Mohammed Al Jayousi (Al Bilad); Best Photography: Yousif Tulefat (Bahrain News Agency).

Information Minister Dr Ramzan Al Nuaimi thanked HRH Prince Salman for supporting freedom of expression, which is a fundamental component of the kingdom’s constitution.

Meanwhile, Bahrain Journalists’ Association vice-chairman Abdulrahman Al Midfaa hoped that media would further develop to meet advancements in the field.

National Assembly and Parliament Speaker Ahmed Al Musallam, Shura Council Chairman Ali Saleh Al Saleh, ministers, several senior officials, top journalists, and media professionals attended the ceremony.

A video on the progress of journalism in Bahrain was shown during the event.

Abdulla Al Khan presented a photograph of the King and HRH Prince Salman dated 1978 to HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
