Emerging digital trends to be probed during Tech Week
MANAMA: The third annual Bahrain Tech Week starts on Sunday showcasing opportunities for innovation and growth in Bahrain’s thriving technology sector.
Hosted by the Economic Development Board (EDB), Bahrain’s main investment promotion agency, the week-long series of events culminates a year of exciting developments for the kingdom’s ecosystem, which has matured at a rapid pace.
Once again, the AWS summit, part of Amazon Web Services (AWS) global series, will be the cornerstone event in a diverse programme of summits, forums and workshops exploring how emerging digital trends are revolutionising industries across the GCC.
With the recent launch of the AWS Middle East Region, the AWS Summit will cover how the cloud is accelerating innovation for businesses of all sizes, takes on a renewed significance this year.
The keynote speaker at the summit will be Teresa Carlson, the founder and leader of AWS Worldwide Public Sector.
Trend Micro, a global leader in cyber security solutions, announced it will host a presentation on ‘The Art of Cyber Security in the Cloud’ during the summit.
“The recent launch of AWS’ new data centre cluster in Bahrain has generated a lot of excitement within the burgeoning cloud market to drive new digital business models in Bahrain and the Middle East,” said Trend Micro GCC technical director Bilal Baig.
Bahrain Tech Week 2019 follows on from the highly successful Bahrain Tech Week 2018, which saw over 6,600 participants.
The EDB said it is once again expecting leaders from across government, major international and regional private sector entities as well as the region’s most exciting start-up talent to convene in Bahrain.
In his first statement after taking over as chief executive of the EDB, Khalid Humaidan said Bahrain is forging a path to a digital future.
Looking forward to contribute to the next phase of the kingdom’s economic growth, Mr Humaidan noted the EDB’s role in bringing jobs, training and innovation into the country through the entry of AWS among others.
Other highlights of the week will include: AWS Startup Day on Monday at the Gulf Hotel offering a chance for entrepreneurs to meet, learn from and exchange ideas with company founders.
Also on Monday from 6pm onwards will be the Flat6Labs demo day featuring the latest cohort of start-ups from the accelerator.
Global training and technology platform HexGn’s My Startup Bootcamp takes place over three days, starting 10am on Sunday at the Crowne Plaza.
The first GCC PropTech Time Summit, exploring how technology will play a significant role in transforming the way real estate is financed, built, leased and managed, is lined up for Tuesday at the Crowne Plaza. The summit starts at 8.30am.
A discussion titled Delivering a Digital Future is set to take place on Wednesday from 4pm at the Arcapita Building. It is organised by Innervate, a UK tech firm playing a leading role in the digital transformation of the Middle East. The seminar will feature guest speakers from Microsoft and Purple.
Majra, a website that works on supporting young professionals in building a career path, is organising a career fest at the Crowne Plaza on Wednesday. The fest starts at 8am and will feature ‘Talent Speed Networking’ for graduates looking to start their careers in technology, web media and design or business.
On Saturday, the Bahrain Polytechnic will host CoderDojo Bahrain, a special session from 10am, which will look to teach 7 to 17-year olds how to code apps, websites and games.
Organised by AWS and Thinksmart with support from Bahrain Technology Companies Society (BTECH), AWS Ignition Day is a free training event bringing together IT leaders, training and HR managers from Bahrain’s key organisations to showcase their AWS skilling and migration journey.
The event from 8am to 5pm on September 22 at the Gulf Hotel will also cover training on core AWS services, use cases, best practices and tech demos.
The final event of the Tech Week will be a key discussion on how artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning and robotic process automation (RPA) are transforming business dynamics.
The session will start at 4pm on September 22 at the Bahrain FinTech Bay in Arcapita Building.
It is organised by Innosoft Solutions in partnership with Bahrain FinTech Bay.
