Chanel, Dior, Louis Vuitton and more French brands to support healthcare workers with one-off auction

The French fashion industry has come together for a one-off fashion auction to raise money for healthcare workers.

La Mode S’Engage will help fund non-profit organisation #ProtegeTonSoignant, which has been sourcing and distributing supplies to French healthcare workers during the coronavirus pandemic.

So far more than 80 brands have been confirmed for the auction, including Chanel, Celine, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Balenciaga and Comme des Garçons, reports Business of Fashion.

Each designer will either customise an archive item or design a new piece from scratch for the auction, which must include a reference to the signature blue colour of #ProtegeTonSoignant.

The item will be sold to the highest bidder and all proceeds will go to French hospitals and healthcare workers.

#ProtegeTonSoignant only launched five weeks ago and has already raised over €5 million (about £4.2 million), with support from the Fédération de la haute couture et de la Mode and the French Fashion Institute.

Nicolas Santi-Weil, who is spearheading La Mode S’Engage told Business of Fashion that “the goal is to raise as much money as possible”.

He added: “We want to be a helping hand… to the work of the state.”

#ProtegeTonSoignant is currently sitting on 167 requests for medical supplies worth about €20 million, according to Business of Fashion.

Auction pieces will start at €100 (about £87), set to go live from 1 May until 4 May.
