BD1.3 billion new projects tendered

Tenders and auctions worth BD1.3 billion were awarded in the first half of 2021, the Cabinet was informed yesterday.

His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, chaired the weekly Cabinet meeting at Gudaibiya Palace.

The Cabinet expressed its gratitude and appreciation to His Majesty King Hamad for his support of Team Bahrain’s relentless efforts to combat Covid-19, led by HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

In line with the statement issued by the King marking the conclusion of the Ashoora religious holiday, the Cabinet commended the efforts of the Interior Ministry, Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Ministry, and the National Taskforce for Combating the Coronavirus (Covid-19), as well as the support received from various organisations and people for the success of the observance, including the Jaffari Endowments Council, religious scholars, heads of ma’atams and volunteers.

The Cabinet stressed the importance of continuing to adhere to the precautionary measures aimed at safeguarding public health.

The Cabinet congratulated Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of His Majesty and Supreme Council for Women (SCW) President, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the SCW.

Commitment

In this regard, the Cabinet affirmed its commitment to continue to develop initiatives and policies that enhance the progress of Bahraini women and their role in government in co-operation with the SCW.

The Cabinet discussed the joint efforts of Bahrain and international partners in providing humanitarian relief in Afghanistan including facilitating a first evacuation flight to the US, by the kingdom’s national carrier, Gulf Air.

The evacuation operation reflects the kingdom’s commitment to co-operate with the international community to support humanitarian relief efforts. The Cabinet stressed the importance of ensuring the safety of civilians in Afghanistan.

The Cabinet discussed several memorandums during the meeting with the following outcomes:

The approval of the following memorandums:

1. A memorandum by the Government Executive Committee on further developing the quality of government services provided to citizens and residents, by incorporating the following:

l All government services and procedures are to be documented and published within the service-level agreement (SLA).

l To launch a secret buyer (mystery shopping) service programme to audit customer services.

2. A memorandum by the Ministerial Committee for Legal and Legislative Affairs regarding the meeting of the seventh session of the Bahraini-Omani Joint Committee.

3. A memorandum by the Ministerial Committee for Financial and Economic Affairs and Fiscal Balance regarding operations of the Tender Board for the first half of 2021, which showed an increase in the percentage of public tenders offered to reach 74.5 per cent of the total, and that 1,070 tenders and auctions worth BD1.3bn were awarded during the same period.

4. A memorandum by the Ministerial Committee for Legal and Legislative Affairs regarding the government’s response to two law proposals submitted by Parliament.

The Cabinet also reviewed a memorandum by the Parliament and Shura Council Affairs Ministry regarding the third session of the fifth legislative term in the field of legislative and oversight work, reflecting close co-operation between the executive and legislative authorities.

The Cabinet took note of ministerial reports regarding the calendar of events for the period from August to December 2021.
