BD1,000 fine for quarantine rule violators

FIVE people, including a shop owner, have been fined BD1,000 each for violating regulations being implemented to combat the spread of Covid-19.

Four of them were charged with breaking the self-quarantine rule.

“All the five defendants have been fined BD1,000 each due to sufficient evidence against them,” read a ruling by the Lower Criminal Court yesterday.

Meanwhile, the Public Prosecution carried out investigations into nine people who are said to have broken the self-quarantine rule.

They went out into the public when they were told to stay home for a period of two weeks after returning from countries where the infection has spread.

In addition, 10 people were also questioned by prosecutors in connection with opening their shops during the closure period mandated by health and safety regulations.

All 19 people have been released on bail pending investigations.
