BCCI donates BD1.5m to fight Covid-19

A TOTAL of BD1.5 million has been donated by the country’s main business body towards national efforts to combat the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) chairman Sameer Nass said the funds would go towards the ‘There is Good in Us’ campaign, which was launched earlier this week by His Majesty’s Representative for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs, National Security Adviser and Royal Humanitarian Foundation (RHF) board of trustees chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

He said BCCI members have also been exempt from paying the chamber’s annual fees for an entire year, until March 2021, allowing for BD1.2m to be donated towards the initiative.

“The BCCI has sensed the economic repercussions for the Covid-19 pandemic since February and has taken the initiatives to mitigate the economic effects on the national economy and on small and medium enterprises in particular,” said Mr Nass.

“The chamber communicated with economic decision makers and has monitored all the sectors which includes monitoring the trade movement across the kingdom’s ports.

“We have also contacted the malls to provide facilitations to shop owners and we are in the process of preparing economic visions for the post-crisis phase that will be announced in due course.”

The Finance and National Economy Ministry has allocated an account with the National Bank of Bahrain (NBB) for establishments, companies and individuals who wish to donate.

The account name is: MOFNE THE NATIONAL EFFORT TO COMBAT THE CORONAVIRUS COVID 19.

The IBAN number is: BH66 NBOB 0000 0082 1093 70.
